The ‘Tap in’ Women in Plumbing series is funded by the Victorian Government through Solar Victoria’s Electrification Skills Program, a $5 million investment in subsidised training initiatives over three years.
About Women in Plumbing
Women in Plumbing is designed for women working in any role in the plumbing industry to enhance their understanding of energy efficiency requirements and heat pump hot water systems.
The ‘Tap in’ series runs over six weeks and consists of fully funded:
- online learning and blended support
- in-person masterclasses
- networking and forums.
There are three intakes of up to 20 women. At the end, all participants will be invited to come together for a networking and career showcase event.
This series will equip you with the knowledge to guide Victorians on how they can electrify their home, save on energy bills and tackle climate change by upgrading to a hot water system that uses less energy.
The 'Tap in' Women in Plumbing series is delivered by Holmesglen TAFE. Along with Build Better Homes: Women in sustainable construction, it builds on other initiatives we have funded to support women in industry.
Check if you are eligible
Women aged at least 18 years old who are working in any role in the plumbing industry Victoria can participate in this series.
You do not need to be a registered or licensed plumber or fourth-year plumbing apprentice or be working with an authorised retailer or installer in the Solar Homes Program to participate in this series free of charge.
What you will learn and where
By participating in the ‘Tap in’ Women in Plumbing series you will learn more about:
- energy-efficient plumbing measures to support customers and installations
- what a heat pump hot water system is and how it works
- other energy efficient hot water technologies e.g. solar diverters, demand response electric storage, and instantaneous electric
- Building and Plumbing Commission licensing and registration requirements
- refrigerant safety and siting considerations for flammable refrigerants
- Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) licensing requirements
- gas decommissioning
- electrical requirements at different stages of installation
- maintenance and repairs of heat pump hot water systems
- electrification and new regulations commencing in 2027 for new builds, rentals and water heater replacements
- Government supports and incentives such as Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs), Solar Homes Program rebates, small-scale renewable energy certificates (STCs)
- tools for system design and performance, and incentive calculation using device apps, also known as in-field apps
- Australian-made and local content heat pump systems.
Learning is delivered through the following formats. Three intakes of up to 20 women for online learning and blended support, and in-person workshops are planned.
