Efficient home design and construction training
The Efficient Home Design and Construction Training supported the residential construction industry to design and construct more energy efficient homes that are more comfortable to live in, cost less to heat and cool, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The training covered:
- From Code to Comfort – the benefits of net zero homes and the fundamental principles of the National Construction Code 2022 and passive solar design.
- The Air We Breathe – managing moisture and ventilation High Performance
- Building Enclosures – the importance of vapour control and insulation and its impact on energy-efficient homes.
- Wired for the Future – choosing the right systems and appliances to reduce energy costs and lowering emissions.
Solar Victoria Net Zero Homes – Skills training
Participants accessed five key modules in completing this training:
- Module 1: Covers key design principles of high performing, energy efficient homes.
- Module 2: Focuses on improving building technique and standard practice, quality checking and incorporating compliance tools.
- Module 3: Covers the healthy home and effectively managing all aspects of vapour management, condensation, and indoor air quality to ensure building longevity and resident health.
- Module 4: Looks at integrating the most efficient technologies and major appliances to achieve Net Zero operational energy.
- Module 5: Explores shifting homes to true Net Zero by selecting materials with lower embodied carbon, material re-use and understanding the “carbon budget” in construction.
This training also provided guidance on the National Construction Code 2022, including new whole-of-home appliance requirements.
It was developed and is administered by the South Australian Department for Energy and Mining’s Learning Hub for Energy Efficient Construction.
Home efficiency construction roadshows
These home efficiency construction webinars and roadshows were hosted by the Housing Industry Association to:
- increase skills and knowledge in topics such as environmentally sustainable design and construction, home electrification and the National Construction Code 2022 (7-star and whole-of-home)
- boost capacity to meet new regulatory benchmarks, for example, all-electric and 7-star homes.
