Applicants to the Solar Homes Program no longer need to upload photos of their identity documents or complete the facial recognition process to verify their identity. After a closure of the Solar Victoria Portal over the weekend to make the changes, applicants can now supply the details of any two of the following documents to prove their identity:

  • Driver’s license
  • Medicare card
  • Passport (Australian or foreign with a valid visa)
  • Birth certificate; or
  • ImmiCard

To maintain a high level of security around customer applications and to prevent applications being submitted by third parties, the update to the Portal has also introduced a one-time passcode (OTP) feature. OTP sends the applicant’s phone a six-digit code to enter at the start of the application process.

Solar Victoria estimates the changes will help applicants save at least five minutes time applying for a rebate.

Solar Victoria CEO Stan Krpan says the update has made it easier for Victorians to get solar for their homes.

“Based on feedback from Victoria’s solar industry and the public, we’ve simplified the identity verification process to make it quicker and easier to get a rebate.”
